On this Reddit thread a number of recruiters shared some of the resources that they've used for learning about tech.

We thought we'd do a longer version of this. Whilst of course we believe TechMap is a great solution, it's not the only one. And we believe that in Education, one important thing is to always have alternatives for different kind of learners, with different needs and learning styles.

So, here's our compiled list.

GlossaryTech

GlossaryTech is actually a tool that was built by Relocate.me. In and by itself, it's a clever way to build their brand whilst helping non-tech people out there.

It's a Google chrome extension which allows you to scan technical terms on CV, JDs or on the web. Whilst this isn't a course per se, we think this is a fabulous addition to a course. In other words, once you've acquired the "map" of models of technologies, then this is a fabulous addition. Highly recommended.

PrestonPark YouTube Channel

This is a Youtube channel for any tech recruiters out there where Preston, a tech recruiter and business owner himself, shares his secret about recruitment. You'll have everything from how what he wish he knew about recruitment before he started, all the way to what is the best ATS out there. There are some content about tech, but it's not solely his focus.

TechMap

TechMap is the only course that was designed by engineers and ex-recruiter to help train tech recruiters understand tech. The course is about more than learning a specific stack. Rather, it's about acquiring the "models" which engineers have of tech. The belief is simple: if you know this model/map, you'll be able to build on top of it, specialising in any of the stacks you're actually recruiting for.

It's only 15 hours-long and you can take it by yourself. We won't self-promote more, so go check us out here.

CBT Nuggets

CBT Nuggets is part of CBTnuggets.com, a platform that does "IT Training". It seems geared at both IT pros and IT novices alike. At $59/month or $599/year, it's a large library of videos and trainings from the likes of "How to organize Outlook for the web" all the way to "How to design a React Form component".

If you want just the free version with the Youtube videos, we suggest you search their Youtube channel for the topics of interest.

DevSkiller

DevSkiller have a number of course including this one which covers a number of topics all the way from How to design a fully functional hiring process in IT, the best places to source software developers from and a glossary of IT terms.

This is best suited for those who like written format with questions and an exam at the end. It's free though, that's a bonus point

Udemy IT for recruiters training

Maaike van Putten has a course on Udemy for IT for recruiters and talent management professionals at $100 for 2.5 hours on-demand video and seems to be geared towards building better connections.

Google Cloud Digital Leader

This program is a bit more specific for someone looking to learn about Google Cloud and DevOps in general. It's free to take, with a 90min exam at the end which costs $99.
